About Mike
Mike was raised in rural areas of South Louisiana and through his life has desired to return to that kind of peaceful rural setting. He met Denise, the love of his life, while stationed at North Truro Air Force Station in North Truro Massachusetts and they married in 1975. Denise was born on Cape Cod where her family owned a small furniture and appliance business. She grew up working in the family business and met Mike during the summer of 1974 after he went to work for her father repairing TVs. They’ve been married for nearly 51 years and together raised five children and now have eight wonderful grandchildren.
His father, Allen from Reeves Louisiana, and his mother, Jerli from Lubbock Texas, met at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, were married and moved to Allen's home state of Louisiana. While Mike loved the rural setting in Louisiana, he also enjoyed visiting his grandparents in Lubbock. There he learned electronics from his grandfather, who repaired TVs for a hobby after his retirement from Western Union. Mike still has the old "Radio Telephone Handbooks" from the 1950s his grandfather gave him to study.
Before graduating from Walker High School in 1973, because of his love for electronics, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force on the delayed enlistment program. He left for Basic Training after graduation and, following completion of Technical School at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi MS, became an Electronics Technician for Long Rang Radar. His Air Force duty station was North Truro Air Force Station in North Truro MS, where he was assigned to the AN/FPS-26 Height Finder Radar.
After his discharge in 1977, Mike and Denise moved to northwest Texas where Mike accepted a job as an Engineering Technician for Texas Instruments. In 1980 he had the opportunity to take an IBM Mainframe Systems Programmer position with Plains Cotton Cooperative in Lubbock. After a few years, he accepted a position with Radio Shack, so the family moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area where they spent the next 26 years working and raising a family of five children. During that time Mike worked at Radio Shack then moved to Houston General Insurance as the Senior Systems Programmer. In 1993 he was laid off and after a short stint as a mainframe consultant went to work for Fidelity Investments, in the Irving data center, as a Principal Mainframe Systems Programmer.
In 2006, after their youngest graduated from Texas A&M, Mike accepted a new position with Fidelity Investments as Director of Enterprise Architecture for Mainframe Computing in Boston and they moved to the Boston area. During the financial turmoil of 2008-2009 Fidelity laid Mike off, but in 2010 Mike was offered a position as Technical Staff/Engineering Technologist for the CTO at EMC. EMC was later bought by Dell and at Dell Mike served in various Technology, Engineering and Consulting roles until 2021 when he retired from Dell.
Mike and Denise are born again, Bible believing Christians. Both have trusted in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and have been baptized by immersion. While living in D/FW they were members of First Baptist Church in Euless where they served as Sunday School Department Directors, worked in the apartment evangelism ministry and sang in the choir. After moving to the Boston area, they became members of First Baptist Church in Duxbury, a Bible believing conservative fellowship. At First Baptist Mike served as a Deacon and the Director of Media & Video Production and Denise served as the Chairman of Building & Grounds (what most Baptist Churches call Trustees). They lived in Kingston for eleven years and, after Denise's mom passed away, they moved to rural Tennessee in 2017. Today they are members of Living Hope Church in Piperton, a conservative, Bible believing, evangelical fellowship in Piperton, TN. Mike and Denise both serve as greeters and many Sundays, you'll find them at the sanctuary doors, welcoming members and visitors with a smile.
Mike and Dee currently own a small 19-acre farm in a secluded part of Fayette County where they raise vegetables, fruits and have a nice flock laying hens. Mike enjoys woodworking, fishing, shooting and taking care of the chickens, particularly gathering the eggs, while Denise enjoys quilting, canning and decorating the home. Together they love gardening as well as tending the property and often times can be seen on their knees pulling weeds, planting flowers or, each on a John Deere zero turn mowing a portion of the acreage. After moving to Willistion, both got involved with the Fayette County Republican Party where Mike served served as the Secretary and Denise served as the Vice Chairman. After serving for 2 years, in 2022, Mike decided to run for County Commissioner and both focused on the campaign. Mike has served as a commissioner since that time and is now focused on the 2026 campaign.
While life has become busy, they found time to bring two new members to the family. Gregarious mini schnauzers named Sparky and Gris (both AKA Clark Griswold). Together, they begin each day reading God's Word, each with a schnauzer curled up in their lap. After breakfast, usually eggs, they plan the activities of the day.
Life in Fayette County has truly become a peaceful rural life they enjoy and work to improve.
